Nuwara Eliya, Ella and misty estates: how the tea highlands work and what to try there.
The highlands where tea grows
Ceylon tea grows on the slopes of the central highlands. The higher the estate, the cooler the climate and the more delicate the flavour—so teas from different districts taste noticeably different.
At the tea factory
A factory tour shows how leaves are withered, rolled, oxidised and dried, usually ending with a tasting.
Waterfalls along the way
Tea-country roads are rich in waterfalls: Ramboda, St. Clair's and many smaller cascades worth a stop.
